The people of Elythria never developed manned spaceflight; they had magic that let them study the mystical planes around them. There was no need. Sure, they built rockets and put satellites into orbit around the planet, and some wanted to know the limits, but they never reached the point of manned spaceflight. Instead, corporate greed took root, and a dystopia started before the Second God War.
