Technology gives rise to steam power, railroads, telegraphs, mass manufacturing, and medicine develops anesthesia to ease people's pain during procedures. Power now resides with industrial barons, reform councils, and state militaries. Key developments include the Watcher Civic Codes, faith adapting, temples becoming regulators, and unions adopting Watcher rhetoric. The Growth Wars, where Thalen’s circles fight industrial waste; eco-saboteurs become folk heroes. The first “Hollow Incidents”, rare spatial or psychic anomalies at old sactums, which are dismissed as industrial stress.
