Braxen, Lord of Iron

He is the Hammer Below, a god of blacksmithing, a blacksmith’s hammer striking sparks on ore. He endows his followers with the gifts of strength, durability, and the power of metal to withstand. His followers are miners, smiths, and warriors who use steel. Blacksmiths also perform a folk rite by striking their first hammer-blow in silence each morning, offering the sound as a prayer. For he is wed to ore; he courts no one. He envies Miraen, Lady of Craft, because she was given dominion of Craft, while he was left with raw ore. His betrayal of the deities was providing mortals with weapons before the other deities consented.

Holy Day

Every forge in the city, from small single-person shops to sprawling factories, is fired up and lit. Here, each person brings an unfinished, broken, or warped piece of metal to be made whole. It is not the art of creation but the labor behind the work. With this, everyone is expected to swing a hammer once on their own unfinished project before a true master finishes it. Leaving work undone for next year portends failure, because Braxen hates half-commitment.
