Taldrin, Lord of Hearthfire

Better known as the Flame at the Heart. He has a stylized flame symbol cradled within a circle. Gifts of warmth, protection from cold, and the blessing of food that nourishes. His worshippers are cooks, innkeepers, mothers, and guardians of the home. One common folk ritual is that families cast a pinch of salt into the fire before the evening meal, whispering, “Taldrin, keep us warm and fed.” He courts Selvia, Lady of Grain, because hearth and bread are kin. Their liturgy is often performed with bread baked over a sacred flame for festivals. He envies Alvryn, Lord of Skywinds, for fire longs to leap into open air, but Alvryn’s storms often drown Taldrin’s flames. Eventually, he betrayed Thryssa, Lady of Tide; she drowned his fires in a quarrel, and he turned to Selvia instead.

Holy Day

This is the start of a new year and the end of an old one. Veyra's Breath's holy day is now past, and the people can look forward to another year. The celebration is subdued without heavy speeches or fanfare: like most of the known lands, this is the cold time, the official start of winter, and most people are rationing supplies for winter, though it is also a feast. A hog or other animal is usually butchered, and the meat will be given away freely to all inhabitants, even to travelers, at the inns of the town. But the ale, of course, still costs something.
