Selvia, Lady of Grain

Selvia, the Golden Sheaf, is symbolized by a bundle of wheat bound with twine. Her gifts are abundance, harvest, the transformation of grain into bread and drink. Worshippers include farmers, bakers, brewers, and millers. One common folk rite is to leave a single sheaf uncut at the first harvest: “For Selvia to taste.” Brewers pour their first cup to the earth before drinking. She courts Taldrin, Lord of Hearthfire, her steady flame. They pair up and are celebrated by the Feast of Bread and Fire. She envies Thryssa, Lady of Tides, for Selvia’s fields hunger for rain, but Thryssa gives or withholds it as she pleases. She once betrayed the gods by withholding her harvests in anger when mortals gave richer offerings to Neryth, Lady of Fortune.

Holy Day

Selvia’s day is two-fold. The first is the audit of grain stores. Spoiled grain is composted for the spring. Second, for most families, it is about baking simple loaves of bread and sharing them with neighbors. The community unites, each family adds a loaf, and there’s a big feast on bread.
