Lyssara, Lady of Oaths

The Unbroken Word, mistress of oaths and contracts. The symbol of this is a circle clasped by two hands. She bestows the gift of truth, loyalty, and binding vows. Worshippers are judges, diplomats, and lovers. A common folk ceremony is to tie a knot in a cord, which is to be cut when an oath is sworn. Both parties keep part of the rope. She courts Kaelor, Lord of Memory, often linked to her myths; their bond ensures that oaths endure in memory. She’s jealous of Envara, Lady of Secrets, whose secrets often unravel oaths, and Lyssara hates her influence. In one archaic myth, Lyssara vowed that she would protect a mortal kingdom, but eventually abandoned it when they had broken their vows first.

Holy Day

New contracts may be entered; old contracts may be read aloud but not altered. Every man around noon can swear an oath: marriage, service, debt, alliance; whatever. All are binding, and, as a result, a contract between two parties is fulfilled when the two people touch the stone slabs of the town square Witness Stones, which are said to hold witness for eternity while they stand. Some have cracks created by the Shattered War and the Shattering but remain strong, holding the memory of contracts.
